Leicester researchers to speak at Documentary Media Month events

Leicester researchers will be holding a series of events as part of Documentary Media Month, taking place throughout the month of November and organised by citizen journalist John Coster.

This year's events to feature Leicester academics include:

  • Tuesday 10 November – Photography – ‘Borneo and Bioarchaeology in action’ with Dr Huw Barton from the School of Archaeology and Ancient History between 6 - 8pm, Documentary Media Centre, Wot Space, 3 Shires Lane, Highcross LE1 4AN.
  • Wednesday 18 November – 'Documenting Disability: Policy, Politics and the Personal', curated by Dr Anna Claydon from the Department of Media and Communication between 10am-7pm Hansom Hall, Adult Education. This day anticipates the coming International Disability Day on December 3 by instigating debates around disability, policy and asking why we need an international disability day.
  • Friday 20 November – Docfilm Festival screening - A showcase of short documentary films to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week 2015 between 6 - 8pm at the Documentary Media Centre. A screening of the documentary ‘Agora – From Democracy to the Market’  about the Greek/EU crisis. It is directed by Greek documentary filmmaker and journalist, Yorgos Avgeropoulos. This event is in association with the Media & Democracy Research Group, University of Leicester. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session and ‘live’ Skype with Yorgos.
  • Wednesday 25 November Doc Media exhibition between 6 - 8pm at the Doc Media Centre in association with Senika Simon to mark the UN Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women / contributions by Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan of the 1325 Project / in support of University of Leicester’s HeForShe – a Solidarity Movement for Gender Equality (one of the 10 universities worldwide to partner with the United Nations).
