Hotly anticipated Varsity competition returns
The annual Varsity contest, in which University of Leicester students pit themselves against rivals De Montfort University in a range of different sports, officially begins today (11 March).
Sports such as netball, fencing, Tae Kwon-Do, climbing, lacrosse and many others will all be contested over a week that will determine the 2015 Varsity champion in Leicester.
Varsity culminates in the women’s and men’s rugby matches taking place once again at the Leicester Tigers Welford Road stadium on Wednesday 18 March in front of what is always a large and noisy crowd. The women’s match kicks-off at 6.30pm followed by the men’s match at 8.05pm. Tickets are £5 in advance from the Students' Union.
The two teams have also been receiving some expert advice from two current Tigers players. England centre Anthony Allen and Terrence Hepetema have been coaching the University of Leicester’s and De Montfort University’s rugby teams respectively.
The women’s team are unbeaten for twelve years, and the men have won the competition two years in a row.
Both the men's and women's football teams will be battling it out at Aylestone Park on Monday 23 March, with the women's team kicking off at 5.15pm and men's team at 7.30pm. Tickets for both matches are free and buses will be provided free of charge from outside the Students Union on campus and from John Foster Halls in Oadby, see the Students' Union website for times.
