University of Leicester Boat Club to compete in Leicester Regatta 2015

Anticipation for the upcoming Leicester Regatta 2015 is heightened by the University Boat Race, an annual event that sees the University of Leicester Boat Club and De Montfort University Rowing Club going head-to-head at 12.30pm on Sunday 26 April.

In teams of eight the University of Leicester Boat Club will compete to be crowned the champions of 2015.

The Leicester Regatta 2015 will be spread across more than 40 competition events, ranging from lone scullers in their single boats to the largest boats of eight. This year’s regatta will take place on a dead straight 700 metre stretch of river, adding to the exhilaration of the competition.

Rob Fox, Captain of Leicester Rowing Club, said: “The distance of our racing course is short, compared to some. This means that it’s a flat-out sprint for everyone, and in many cases it’s an incredible head-to-head race the whole way. This makes it brilliant to watch, but even better to race in.”

With more than 500 competitors the Leicester Regatta 2015 is the city’s biggest and most impressive rowing race, which will mark the highly anticipated start to summer racing.

With an impressive number of competitors people around the city will be able to experience the thrill of the racing event with a view from the river’s tow-path.

Racing will take place between 9am-5:30pm between Castle Gardens and the Leicester City Football ground on Sunday 26 April.
