Know your zone
General
Please be mindful of the following:
- The Library facilities are in place to facilitate studying and research. Inappropriate use of these facilities, such as sleeping in the building or behaviour that disrupts the study or research of others is not permitted.
- When using the library, please be considerate of other library users - ensure that the noise level is appropriate for the zone and not disruptive to other users.
- Where food is allowed, it must not be smelly, hot or have been previously served hot.
- Where drinks are allowed, they must not contain alcohol.
- Smoking or the use of e-cigarettes or vaping products is not permitted anywhere in the Library, or at any entrance to the Library.
- Your ID card should be kept with you at all times and should not be lent to anyone else.
- Personal items should not be left unattended.
- Spaces should be left tidy after you have used them.

Zones
To help you find the best place to work in the Library, there are different zones available.
Collaborative zones
- For group and collaborative work
- Locations:
- Group study rooms (Basement - Floor 3)
- Pink zones (Floors 2 and 3)
- Discussions should be held at normal conversational level
- Please use your headphones when listening to a device
- Cold food allowed
- Lidded, bottled, or canned drinks allowed
Quiet zones
- For individual study
- Locations:
- Basement
- Doctoral College Reading Room (Floor 1)
- Yellow zones (Floors 1 - 3)
- Quiet, occasional whispered discussions only
- Please use your headphones when listening to a device
- Cold food allowed
- Lidded, bottled, or canned drinks allowed
Silent zones
- For individual study
- Locations:
- Basement
- Ground Floor (Rhoda Bennett)
- Blue and Orange zones (Floors 1 - 3)
- This is a no-talking and no-whispering zone
- Please use your headphones when listening to a device
- Devices should be set to silent, any calls taken outside the zone
- No food allowed
- Lidded, bottled, or canned drinks allowed
PC zones
- For group and collaborative work. Except 2.2 which is individual study
- Locations:
- ESports Lab (Ground floor)
- PC Lab (Floor 1)
- 2.1 and 2.2 (Floor 2)
- 3.1 (Floor 3)
- Quiet, whispered discussions only. Except 2.2 which is silent
- Please use your headphones when listening to a device
- No food allowed
- No drinks allowed
Archives and Special Collections
- For individual study
- Location:
- Basement
- Quiet, occasional whispered discussions only

Reading Lounge
- A space to relax in and step away from your studies
- Location:
- Ground Floor
- Quiet, occasional whispered discussions only

Rhoda Bennett Reading Room
- For individual study
- Location:
- Ground Floor

Please be aware, that we may change the zoning of a space depending on the time of year. For example, the quiet zone in the basement may become a silent zone during the main exam periods.
