Heritage and Culture

Research

The School of Heritage and Culture is home to world-leading research centres and clusters. These include:

Centre for Endangered Archaeology and Heritage

The Centre for Endangered Archaeology and Heritage (CEAH) focuses on research and collaboration in the field of endangered archaeology and heritage. It was established in 2022 and builds upon previous work at Leicester regarding endangered heritage, particularly in North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. The CEAH addresses threats like conflict, looting, development and climate change.

Centre for Material Worlds Past and Present

The Centre for Material Worlds Past and Present is an interdisciplinary Research Centre focused on the intersection of materials and human societies, past and present. It explores how materials shape human experiences and how humans, in turn, shape materials, integrating scientific, literary and philosophical approaches.

Centre for Medieval Research

The Leicester Medieval Research Centre, founded in 1996 at the University of Leicester, brings together medieval research and teaching across the College of Social Science, Arts, and Humanities (CSSAH) and hosts conferences, colloquia and a programme of lectures and seminars by local and visiting speakers.

Research Centre for Museums and Galleries

The Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) focuses on conducting research that stimulates new thinking and creative practices for cultural organisations, aiming to foster more equitable and inclusive societies. They collaborate with cultural partners to address real-world contexts and explore how museums can meaningfully engage with diverse communities and contribute to public discourse.

The School is also deeply involved with the Heritage Hub and the Institute for Digital Culture.
