School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences
About Computing and Mathematical Sciences
Our School is young and dynamic, and takes a scientific and rigorous approach to all aspects of computing and mathematical sciences. We recognise that computing is a vibrant and diverse discipline, which ranges from the development of new processors, hardware and technologies through to the logical verification of such systems, and from the requirements and architecture of sophisticated software systems to mathematical models of programming languages.
Mathematical Sciences at Leicester is internationally recognised for the quality of both our teaching and research. Our actuarial science degrees are taught by qualified actuaries with many years of industry experience.
We are especially proud of the positive and supportive learning environment created by staff and students. Close ties between our students and our staff mean that Leicester students graduate with a broad range of skills and experience in their chosen field.
We take pride in our research, and all our academic staff are hired on the basis of international excellence, as well as their teaching skills.
Our teaching is inspired by our research and we aim to help our students to become highly skilled professionals, well-versed in advanced methods and tools. Our teaching is focused on helping to develop an inquiring and problem-solving ethos, to be innovative, and to think in a computational way. Our degree programmes are of high quality, and students leave us with a mixture of state-of-the-art practical skills, useful for today's employers.
We are part of the College of Science and Engineering.
Our statement of purpose
We transform the lives of our staff and students through inspirational teaching and research. Advocating transparency and fairness, leading and adapting to change, we nurture forward thinking citizens for the future.
