We are committed to providing high quality training of the next generation of research leaders in cardiovascular science.

Taught Courses

We run a one year, full time MRes Cardiovascular Science. Students study cardiovascular science at an advanced level and can develop the skills needed to go on to a career in cardiovascular research. Moreover, it is an appropriate pathway to PhD studies in this specialty.

Our staff also contribute to courses in the Leicester Medical School, the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences.

Members of the Department make a major contribution to clinical training and also lead modules in Phase 1 of the Medicine MBChB course.

Our Department also offers placements for medical students pursuing an Intercalated MSc by research.

Research degrees

Research within the Department covers all the major areas of cardiovascular research, ranging from basic cell and molecular studies to clinical research. Leicester is one of the few centres in the country where there is an extensive combination of basic and clinical research in the cardiovascular field.
