Rachel Abounouar

Rachel Abounouar passed away on the morning of 12 December 2019 after a five-year battle against cancer in which she redefined the meaning of strength, bravery and determination. 

Rachel joined the University in 2009 as a tutor in the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU). She became a manager in the department in 2015 and was instrumental in helping the department to grow and prosper. She led the department’s development into teacher training and had an extraordinary commitment to the students on these programmes. She was greatly respected by students and colleagues alike, many of whom she would call friends. She will be remembered for her support, generosity and positivity, as well as for her expertise in the field of English language teaching and training. She leaves a lasting legacy at the ELTU and will be greatly missed.

Rachel leaves behind her husband, Karim and her daughter, Oumnia. The funeral will be at Great Glen Crematorium on Friday 20 December at 4.30pm.
