A man holding a book in a large room with lots of paraphernalia around himIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Gordon Hodgson, who died on 16 November 2025 at the age of 82.

Ron was born on 3 January 1943 in Liverpool, where he spent his early years and attended St Margaret’s Secondary Commercial School for Boys and Chidwall Hall County College. He later pursued his passion for politics at the University of Leicester, graduating in 1969. During his time at university, Ron met and married Kathleen, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than five decades. Together, they raised four children - Keir, Guy, Lewis, and Eleanor - and celebrated the arrival of their first grandchild, Dylan, in 2015.

Ron’s career reflected his commitment to education and public service. He held roles in local government and universities in Liverpool, Newcastle, and Oxford, before returning to Leicester in 1983, where he worked in the Personal Office at the University of Leicester until his retirement. His professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike.

Outside of work, Ron was a devoted sports enthusiast. A lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC, he also held a season ticket for the Leicester Tigers, enjoying many memorable matches over the years. His love for sport was matched by his dedication to family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness and unwavering loyalty.

Ron is survived by his wife Kathleen, his children Keir, Guy, Lewis and Eleanor and his grandson Dylan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at 11.30am at Great Glen Crematorium, London Road, Great Glen, LE8 9DJ, followed by informal refreshments at the Italian Greyhound, Great Glen.
