The PERFORM trial
The PERFORM (Personalised Exercise-Rehabilitation For people with Multiple long-term conditions (multimorbidity)) trial has been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Programme Grants to co-develop (with patients, caregivers, clinicians, and service commissioners) a bespoke programme of personalised exercise-based rehabilitation for people with multimorbidity and to evaluate its acceptability, clinical effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of its implementation into the NHS.
Perform also includes a smaller, embedded study known as a Social Media Study within a Trial (SWAT). This subtrial explores whether being part of a virtual community of practice can help improve participant engagement and retention over the course of the study. As digital platforms become increasingly integrated into everyday life, this SWAT aims to understand how supportive online environments might enhance the research experience for people living with multiple long-term conditions.
