Leicester is top in the country for student affordability
Leicester has been identified as the cheapest UK city for students – this is the third survey this year that has placed Leicester in the UK top 10.
In the report by UNiDAYS, the Nottingham-based student affinity network, Leicester has emerged top based on the cost of ‘student essentials.’
UNiDAYS polled 3,000 students across the UK to identify the top 10 items students purchase every month – and compared prices across the country’s biggest university towns and cities.
Leicester was placed top - ahead of Birmingham, Lancaster, Edinburgh and Coventry.
In recent months the Student Living Index identified Leicester as the 8th most affordable city for students in the UK.
Those results come just after another survey identified Leicester as being among the top places in the Midlands – Leicester is ranked fifth in the new table from Marbles.com.
A spokesperson for the University of Leicester said: “The University of Leicester is an excellent choice for students for career outcomes, quality of education and student experience. Last year, the University had the biggest intake of students in its history and our caring and approachable staff ensure we have a welcoming and friendly campus community.
“There can be a massive difference in the costs you face depending on where you choose to study. This survey shows one of the great advantages of studying at Leicester is that your money will go further, meaning you will not only be studying in a vibrant and diverse city, but you will also be studying in one of the best value cities for student expenditure.”
