Leicester welcomes over 1500 school students on campus

Over 1,500 students arrived on campus to experience a taste of university life as part of the Schools’ Taster Conference which took place on Thursday 29 June.

Year 12 students from over 30 schools and colleges from the Midlands, London and East Anglia attended taster sessions of the subjects offered at Leicester, led by our academic staff.

They were also given the opportunity to speak to academics about their departments and UCAS applications at the Information Fair.

Student Ambassadors provided tours of campus as well as accommodation tours – giving the school students a glimpse of what it could be like living away from home at Oadby Student Village.

The event coincides with the final day of the University’s 2017 widening participation initiatives - Leicester Enhanced Access Programme (LEAP) and Realising Opportunities Programme (ROP).

Elliot Newstead, Student Recruitment Manager, said: “We are delighted to host today’s Schools’ Taster Conference at Leicester and provide a fantastic taste of university life to students who will be making their UCAS applications from September. A schools’ event of this size is unique in the HE sector and the fact that over 30 schools and colleges have taken up the opportunity to visit Leicester is a real testament to the great work being conducted across our undergraduate departments.”
