University figures feature in Most Influential People in Leicestershire list

The Leicester Mercury has recently published its Most Influential People in Leicestershire 2016 brochure, which features staff, alumni, honorary graduates and others associated with the University of Leicester.

Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor, is among the staff featured, as is Professor Surinder Sharma from the DICE Unit and DNA fingerprinting pioneer Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, who is now retired from our Department of Genetics. Vic Sethi of Anand International, who sits on the University Court, is also listed.

Several alumni from the University feature, including Aatin Anadkat, managing director of Hotel Maiyango; Economics graduate Chris Darlington, managing partner of accountancy firm Mazars; and Tim Maxted, chairman of Berkeley Insurance Group.

A number of honorary graduates of the University are also included in the list, including naturalist Sir David Attenborough; Police and Crime Commissioner Lord Willy Bach; John Bloor of Bloor Holdings; former Dragon’s Den ‘dragon’ Hilary Devey; Richard Everard of Everards Brewery; Lady Jennifer Gretton, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire; singer Engelbert Humperdinck; David Monteith, Dean of Leicester; David Samworth of Samworth Brothers; John Sinnott, Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Council; Chairman of the Leicester Council of Faiths, Manjula Sood; Leicester City Football Club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha; and David Wilson, building company chairman and philanthropist.
