Leicester among top 25 institutions in The TimesThe Sunday Times Good University Guide

The University of Leicester is ranked among the top 25 UK institutions in a national league table compiled by national newspapers.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 places Leicester 25th out of over 120 universities, a rise of three places from 28th last year. It is also ranked third in the East Midlands and one of only three institutions from the region to appear in the top quartile of the league table.

This year’s ranking follows efforts over the past year to enhance the student experience which led to a rise in the latest National Student Survey in our overall student satisfaction to 88%. The impact of this work can be seen in the University’s score for teaching excellence (80.5%) and student experience (85.8%) in the latest Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide league table.

Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor, said: “This is a fantastic result for the University of Leicester and demonstrates that our focus on making Leicester a listening university and implementing the change that our students are asking for is paying dividends.

“This academic year, we are launching our Fabulous First Year initiative with a host of activities to ensure that we are engaging positively with our students from the moment that they arrive. Returning students will see great new developments too, including a new student app to support their university life and a central Student Services Centre bringing all our student-facing services together in one place for the first time.

"The results of student satisfaction surveys in assessment and feedback have been particularly impressive; with our investment in learning resources including Library and IT services recognised in sector-leading scores.  The number of students impressed with services and delivery at the Students’ Union also continues to grow.

“Staff and students at the University of Leicester should be proud of this result and its recognition that their contribution to the ongoing development of the University is working.”

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 is published over three days, beginning with a free 60-page supplement published this weekend in The Sunday Times (September 25). A fully searchable website with full university profiles and 67 subject tables will be published on Sunday for subscribers to The Times and The Sunday Times.

This week, it was confirmed that the University has maintained its position among the top 1% of universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Leicester is also ranked in the top 25 universities in the Times Higher Education REF Research Power rankings.
