U.S. News has released the third edition of its annual Best Global Universities rankings today to allow comparisons of universities around the world.
The 2017 overall ranking features the top 1,000 universities, an increase from the 750 included in the previous edition. These universities are located across 65 countries, up from 57 last year.
The Best Global Universities rankings – based on data and metrics provided by Clarivate Analytics InCitesTM – were calculated using factors that focus on a university's academic research performance and reputation.
The University of Leicester is cited in the top 30 in the UK – at number 28 – and at 254 in the world.
Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester said: “In an incredible tough and competitive global environment, I am proud of Leicester’s academic excellence. I am delighted that the University continues to be cited amongst the leading institutions in the world and to be ranked among a global elite for the quality of our research, teaching and output. This is further endorsement of the world-class status of the University of Leicester, and helps to explain Leicester’s remarkable record of success in attracting postgraduate and undergraduate students from across the world.”
Earlier this month, Leicester was also cited for its outstanding performance in another global ranking of world-leading universities.
The announcement by the NTU ranking, released by National Taiwan University, is also known as the “Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities”.
This follows the announcement by the THE World University Rankings placing Leicester among the top 1% of universities in the world.
Leicester was also ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world and in the top 20 universities in the UK by the CWUR World University Rankings.
