Seed Library

Seed Library promotional graphic showing three people planting seeds with "John the Leicester Seed Library" graphic

Working with Leicester City Council and The Conservation Volunteers, we're giving away free packets of seeds to library users, encouraging people to start growing fresh, tasty, healthy veg at home. The offer is open to all members of Leicester Libraries or the University Library.

Suitable for planting in the garden, patio or yard pots and even on the window ledge (in a suitable tray or pot), the seeds offer the perfect opportunity to take the first steps to horticultural success.

What type of seeds can I choose?

You can choose up to three packets of seeds (in any combination) from the list advertised by Leicester Libraries. Different seeds are available during the Spring and Autumn growing seasons.

How to claim your free seeds

  1. You can visit the Information Hub during staffed hours to place your order, call 0116 454 0290 or visit any local library in Leicester. Please state which seeds you would like and which library you would like to collect them from. You must be a library member to make your claim. University of Leicester students and staff requesting or collecting from Leicester Libraries can join free of charge if they do not already have a public libraries card.
  2. Collect your seeds from your chosen library.

Note: Seeds will be available to request and collect from the Information Hub in the David Wilson Library from 24 March 2025.
