In REF2021, History at the University of Leicester ranked second overall in the UK, with 94% of our research designated 4* or 3* ('world leading' and 'internationally excellent').

Our world-leading research covers everything: from early medieval Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms to modern civil rights movements; and from global histories of sport to local histories of Leicester. Historians at Leicester are involved in all sorts of research activities, creating 3D models of historic sculptures and working with communities and organisations to study their own histories and bring about real-world change. We share our research in books and journal articles as well as public exhibitions and in schools.
