Accreditation of prior learning
This information is for applicants who have received an offer for the Educational Leadership MSc (by distance learning) who wish to apply for Accreditation of Prior Credited Learning (APCL) or Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
Accreditation of Prior Credited Learning (APCL)
If you have Masters-level (level 7) credits which you wish to be considered for exemption against modules in this programme please complete the Accreditation of Prior Learning Form (Word document, 57kb) and email it to dladmissions@le.ac.uk.
Please note that we cannot consider APCL applications before we have made you a formal offer for a place on the Educational Leadership MSc programme.
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
If you wish to be considered for exemption against modules in the Educational Leadership MSc programme under the terms of Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), you will need to respond to the following tasks, so we can determine your case for exemption.
You should apply under the terms of APEL application if you do not want/have Masters-level accredited study to be considered but feel that you have professional experience that is equivalent to meeting the intended learning outcomes of either 30 or 60 module credits on this programme. The 30-credit modules for which APEL is possible to consider for this programme are:
- Educational Leadership, Learning and Change (ELLC)
- External Influences on Educational Leadership (EIEL)
We recommend that you allow 4-6 weeks to prepare these tasks depending on whether credit exemption is being sought for one or both of the 30-credit modules.
There are three tasks to complete for each 30-credit exemption.
Tasks
For all applications you must complete Task 1.
For 30 credits (one module)
Option 1 - to be considered for exemption from Educational Leadership, Learning and Change (ELLC), please complete:
- Task 2a ELLC
- Task 3a ELLC
OR
Option 2 - to be considered for exemption from External Influences on Educational Leadership (EIEL), please complete:
- Task 2b EIEL
- Task 3b EIEL
For 60 credits (both modules)
Please complete:
- Task 2a ELLC
- Task 2b EIEL
- Task 3a ELLC
- Task 3b EIEL
Applying for APEL
Please note that we cannot consider APEL applications before we have made you a formal offer for a place on the Educational Leadership MSc programme.
In order to specifically apply for APEL you must complete the following two tasks:
- Complete the Accreditation of Prior Learning Form (Word document, 57kb)
- Complete the tasks as delineated above
Submitting your application
Please submit your form (and tasks, if appropriate) along with any supplementary material (such as programmes of study and scanned copies of certificates from courses) to dladmissions@le.ac.uk.
Full applications should be received at least four weeks prior to the main application deadline for the programme for which you have applied. This period will be used to review your application and you will be contacted should any further information be required by the reviewers. You will be notified of the decision on the outcome of your application (pass/fail) usually one week prior to the application deadline.
If APL is accepted you will be exempt from either 30 or 60 credits. As a result a new offer letter will be sent to you with a revised fee.
Please note that if your APL application is not accepted your original offer will stand. You will however not be permitted to reapply for APL.
