Course description

Studying our MA in Digital Media and Society will provide you with a comprehensive grounding in digital media technologies and their influences on society, culture, politics and human psychology.

You will gain in-depth knowledge of key approaches and developments associated with digital media and you will be trained in the most innovative research methods to carry out research about digital media, both offline and online.

The course combines core modules and option modules from a selection of specialist subjects. You will also complete a dissertation based on individually supervised research.

2:1 degree or equivalent professional qualification.

We can give special consideration to applicants who have significant work experience in a relevant field.

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

In 1978 the University of Leicester launched the UK's first Masters Degree in the field of media and communication.

One of the UK's longest established academic centres for communication and media studies, we are internationally recognised for our innovative research.

You will be taught by experienced tutors and leading researchers in the field.

Teaching and learning

You will be taught through a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, workshops, social media activities and individual tutorials.

You will undertake independent study and research throughout the course, with guidance from your tutors, in addition to participating in classes. You will be assessed through a combination of essays presentations, case study reports, quizzes and online assignments. You will also complete a research-based dissertation of 10-12,000 words on a topic of your choice, where you will carry out extensive independent research, study and presentation under the expert direction of your research supervisor.
