I am a Research Associate focused on the impact of the indoor environment on human health. My projects are focused on two environments, hospitals and homes, where I characterise chemical and biological pollution to be able to determine a potentially detrimental impact on their occupants, especially on vulnerable populations.
I completed my PhD at CEHS where I developed a protocol to identify and quantify chemical (volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PM2.5) and biological (fungal spores) pollutants inside. I applied this protocol in dwellings of people with asthma to evaluate a potential impact on their symptoms and lung function. In parallel, I performed the first characterisation of indoor chemical pollution in British hospitals and determined the potential impact of exposure to carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic VOCs on NHS workers.
