About the University of Leicester
Michael Clarke
We have learned, with sadness, of the death of Michael Clarke, who worked in the School of Education in the 1980s.
Born in Liverpool, Mike Clarke graduated from Westfield College (now Queen Mary University of London) in 1969 and received his MA in Applied Linguistics from Leeds University in 1977.
In 1980 he came to Leicester where he developed an English language teacher training course for Saudi students. He also taught on MA and MEd courses for language teachers. He subsequently contributed to similar courses at UEA and Nottingham.
Over the years, his passion for teaching English to speakers of other languages took him all over the world, including Italy, Kuwait, Algeria, Swaziland, Malaysia, Brunei and Hong Kong. He continued to travel widely after retired in 1999.
The University extends its condolences to his family and friends.
