2121 secures funding for a range of different areas within our People pillar. Below are just a handful of examples as to how philanthropy supports our people:
Student hardship
At any point of their Leicester journey, students may find themselves in unforeseeable severe financial difficulties through no fault of their own, and contemplate having to drop out. Access to emergency financial support can make a crucial difference between a talented student finishing their degree or being faced with having to abandon their studies.
Scholarships
Donor-funded scholarships and awards are generously funded by our donor community. They open the door to additional networking, mentoring, support and guidance. Securing a scholarship is not only a non-repayable award for our students, but a moment of recognition and a vote of confidence that we believe in their ability and potential.
Sanctuary Seekers Unit
The University of Leicester is the first UK university to have a dedicated Sanctuary Seekers’ Unit. We believe that higher education should be accessible to all based on merit alone, and are pleased to offer a range of initiatives developed in response to emerging needs of those with refugee backgrounds. Sanctuary Scholarships can help reduce barriers to participation in higher education.
