Useful information

Entry requirements

Undergraduate (Bachelors) degrees

If you are studying A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) then you can begin from the first year of a Bachelors degree. Please see individual course pages for specific entry requirements.

We also accept students taking the Standard XII awarded by the CISCE/CBSE or another recognised state exam board. For many courses at the University of Leicester, you will usually need 80% overall or higher, along with higher individual marks of 85% in relevant subjects.

If you are taking another curriculum, please get in touch with us to discuss entry requirements.

We do accept students transferring from an undergraduate degree at a recognised Emirati institution, subject to assessment. Please contact us to discuss your circumstances.

For more information about available degrees please see individual course pages.

Applicants should also meet our English Language requirements as detailed below.

Postgraduate (Masters) degrees

If you hold a relevant Bachelors degree from a recognised UAE university (usually with a grade of 'very good’ jayyid jiddan) you will be considered for postgraduate study. This translates to a GPA score of 3.0 out of 4.00 or 80% and above.

For more information about available degrees please see individual course pages.

PhDs and other research degrees

To apply for a PhD (or other postgraduate research qualification) you must have an undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from a recognised UAE university, usually in a related subject area, with a GPA score of 3.0 out of 4.00 or 80% and above (depending on the subject that you wish to study) which is equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree (also known as a 2:1).

You must also be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of appropriate research methodologies. Research degrees are demanding and intensive: to succeed at this level you must be highly motivated, be able to work independently, and have an appropriate familiarity with the discipline and its associated research techniques/methodologies.

Where a Masters degree is required, this is indicated in the relevant description on our Postgraduate Research webpages, together with further information about requirement.
