University of Leicester student launches app to boost physio learning
An intelligent online learning platform transforming how physios study and retain clinical knowledge has been launched by a senior physiotherapist with support from the University of Leicester.
Leicester student Immanuel Sani has developed AcePhysio, drawing on extensive experience leading clinical education initiatives and aligning academic programmes with workforce needs, industry trends, and emerging technologies. The platform features a spaced learning question bank grounded in cognitive science, designed to move learners beyond passive revision and into deeper, lasting knowledge retention.
AcePhysio emerged from a recognition that the tools physiotherapy students rely on for exam preparation and clinical readiness were not built with the science of learning in mind. The platform's spaced question bank which comprises over 3,000 questions across 12 clinical topic areas adapts to each learner's performance, systematically surfacing knowledge gaps and reinforcing content at intervals proven to maximise long-term retention. High-yield crib sheets, online courses, webinars, and one-to-one personalised tuition further support learners at every stage of their training.
Immanuel has had access to support through the University of Leicester Growth Academy that has help evolve and develop AcePhysio, including membership to Leicester Startups. Since its launch, AcePhysio has attracted over 400 active users across student and qualified practitioners, with growing demand from student physios preparing for assessments and clinicians looking to sharpen their clinical reasoning. The platform has established partnerships with other universities including Loughborough University, the University of Chichester, and Coventry University.
Medical student at the University of Leicester Immanuel Sani said: "AcePhysio was born out of a gap I kept seeing where I saw learners working incredibly hard but not retaining what they needed when it mattered most in clinical settings or passing university exams. Spaced learning is one of the most evidence-backed approaches that we have and physiotherapy students deserve a platform built specifically around how they learn.
"I've always been passionate about how people learn and how they solve problems. AcePhysio is that idea applied directly to the physiotherapy profession. This is the work I feel most called to do."
Tom Ledgard, Head of Careers and Employability, commented: “It’s great to see the progress Immanuel has made with AcePhysio. The platform offers students completing their qualification unique and impactful support and resources to be ready for assessments.
“I hope many more physiotherapy programmes and the students studying them will benefit from access to platform and will help them on their career journey.”
