Leicester explores ‘our working lives’ as Festival of Social Science returns

Leicester will become a hub of discovery and dialogue this month as the Festival of Social Science returns for 2025.
The University of Leicester will host a variety of free public events offering a first-hand experience and thought-provoking discussions on the world of social science
The events form part of a national programme of activities organised by the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) to celebrate the impact and relevance of economics and social science in everyday life.
This year's festival theme, 'our working lives', delves into how our working lives have changed and the role of the employee voice.
Local events this year include:
· The Horror of Childhood: The Babadook film screening & Q&A (Thursday 30 October 2025)
· The Fabric of Our Working Lives: Creative hands-on workshop (Thursday 30 October 2025)
· Indigenous Products and Practices: Adivasi Narratives of Survival and Change (Sunday 2 November)
· ‘Super-Diversity’ film screenings & Q&A: Joyland (Monday 3 November 2025); Children of Men (Thursday 6 November 2025); Babel (Friday 7 November 2025)
· Life after Gestational Diabetes: Health, Working Life and Missed Opportunities: panel meeting and discussion (Monday 3 November)
Nationally, the Festival of Social Science will run from Saturday 18 October to Saturday 8 November.
