Dr Paul Ian Campbell's book, Race and Assessment in Higher Education, has won the British Educational Research Association (BERA)'s Educational Research Book of the Year.
The award celebrates the publication of educational research and is awarded to a book on education that is deemed to be high quality, engaging and innovative.
Dr Campbell is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Leicester, specialising in race and inclusion. He is also the inaugural Director of the University of Leicester's Institute for Inclusivity in Higher Education.

BERA's judging panel said: “I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since I finished reading it. It’s provided many areas for reflection that can be used to inform future practices in higher education teaching and assessment.”
“This book offers a nuanced appreciation of how to move forward to greater inclusivity within higher education.”
“The book adds to a body of work which empirically illustrates how racial inequities persist in Britain and in White Western national states.”
Dr Campbell said: "I am absolutely delighted and honoured to win this award. It is testament to the value of research that not only seeks to help us better understanding how inequities in education work, but provides the sector with evidenced-based solutions for how to tackle them in policy and practice."
