Requesting a letter
The University can provide you with a range of letters that you may need during your studies to confirm your student status.
Types of letter
Certificate of Registration
This confirms your status as a student for the current academic year, and can be used for:
- Inviting visitors to the UK
- Police registration for overseas students
- Council Tax exemption
You are now able to download a Certificate of Registration from the My Uni Documents section of MyStudentRecord, provided you have fully completed registration.
If you are a Distance Learning student studying on a undergraduate or postgraduate taught course please contact dlstudy@leicester.ac.uk to request a letter.
If you have any problems downloading the letter or questions please email studentservices@le.ac.uk.
Bank letter
Providing we have a record of both your 'term-time' and 'home' address we can produce a letter that will allow you to open a UK bank account. Please specify which bank you wish to open an account with.
You are now able to download a Bank letter from the My Uni Documents section of MyStudentRecord, provided you have fully completed registration.
If you are a Distance Learning student studying on a undergraduate or postgraduate taught course please contact dlstudy@leicester.ac.uk to request a letter.

Certificate of Employability
All sponsored students on Student/Tier 4 visas can obtain a Certificate of Employability. You are now able to download a Certificate of Employability from the My Uni Documents section of MyStudentRecord, provided you have fully completed registration.

Schengen/travel visa letter
If you are a non-EU student travelling to Europe you can request a Schengen visa letter if you are travel to the Schengen area.
Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students
You can request a Schengen visa letter by emailing studentservices@le.ac.uk or visiting the Information Hub.
You will need to provide information about your travel destination. If you are planning on visiting France, Italy or Spain the letter may take up to ten working days to produce.
Please note you should not arrange to travel during term time or when you have timetabled teaching events.

Postgraduate research students
You will need to download a Certificate of Registration from the 'My Uni Documents' section of MyStudentRecord.
You may also need to request an additional letter from your academic school that confirms you have approved leave from your course.
Distance Learning undergraduate and postgraduate students
If you are a Distance Learning student studying on a undergraduate or postgraduate taught course please contact dlstudy@leicester.ac.uk to request a letter.
Fees letter
This letter lists your paid/outstanding fees.
To request this letter please email feesandincome@le.ac.uk.
Graduation invite letter
A graduation invite letter can be used to show a student is due to graduate from the University of Leicester, and can be used to:
- submit to an employer for annual leave
- submit as part of a visa application for the student
- submit as part of a visa application for the student’s guests

Award letter
Once you have successfully completed your course we can produce a letter that verifies your qualification. This letter can be used for:
- Proof of qualification for employers
- Proof of qualification for admission into further courses of study or professional bodies
- By Chinese students returning home with a UK qualification
To request this letter please email studentservices@le.ac.uk.
CAS number
If you are an international full-time student with a student visa that will expire before your course finishes then you may be eligible to apply for a CAS number. This will enable you to apply to the Home Office to renew your visa.
Please note that you should submit your application for a CAS number no later than one month before your visa expires.
