Children in the Library policy
As part of our inclusive welcome, children accompanied by a responsible adult (aged 18 years old or over) are allowed in the Library on the following basis:
- The accompanying adult is responsible for the child's behaviour during the visit.
- Children need to remain with their accompanying adult at all times, and should not be left unsupervised.
- Children are not allowed on the stairs unaccompanied. Extra care must be taken on staircases as they can be dangerous areas.
- Children behaving in an unsafe manner maybe excluded from the Library building.
- The Library is a quiet environment with designated silent zones, and other library users must not be disturbed by unacceptable behaviour.
Please speak to a member of staff on arrival so the child can be let in with you.
Please remember you should bear in mind that, in general, University premises were designed with the needs of the adult population in mind.
