University of Law: Professional courses

Thanks to a new collaboration with The University of Law (ULaw), you can take the next step towards qualifying as a solicitor through ULaw’s Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) courses.

You can also move into legal study if you’re new to the discipline. If you are a non-law graduate with ambitions to qualify as a solicitor or barrister, you can choose from a range of recognised law conversion courses, such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL).

The University of Law will deliver the professional programmes, giving you access to face-to-face teaching from qualified and experienced lawyers, dedicated tutor support, and an award-winning employability programme designed to help you build practical, workplace-ready skills.

LLM Legal Practice (SQE 1&2)

The LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) course prepares graduates to qualify as a solicitor via the SQE route while gaining a master’s degree. You’ll build the knowledge and skills required to pass the SQE assessments, alongside the additional expertise employers are looking for, to succeed in legal practice.

MA Law (Conversion)

The Master of Arts in Law conversion course is a specially designed postgraduate degree for non-law graduates who want to gain a general legal qualification at Master’s level. As an internationally recognised qualification, a Law Master’s is a great addition to your portfolio.

With a strong level of support from the start, this course is a great introduction to law if you hold an undergraduate degree in another discipline.

Successful completion of the MA Law (Conversion) qualifies you to progress on to study the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to become a solicitor or the Bar Practice Course (BPC) to become a barrister.

MA Law (SQE1)

The MA Law (SQE1) is a law conversion course that also includes theSQE1 Preparation Course, which prepares students for the SQE1 assessments. The course is designed for non-law graduates who want to qualify as a solicitor and gain a legal qualification at Master’s level.

This course is a great introduction to law if you hold an undergraduate degree in another discipline. Successful completion of the MA Law (SQE1) also qualifies you to progress on to study the SQE2 Preparation Course to become a solicitor.

Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL)

The Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) is a law conversion course that teaches you to think like a lawyer and prepare for the realities of life in legal practice.

This course replaces the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and provides the foundation for the pathway into practice for non-law graduates who want to progress onto the LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) and/or SQE1 Preparation Course to qualify as a solicitor or the Bar Practice Course (BPC) to qualify as a barrister.

SQE1 Preparation Course

This course is for those who wish to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales using the Solicitor Qualifying Examination (SQE) pathway to qualification. The course will prepare you for the SRA’s centralised SQE1 assessments, which will test functioning legal knowledge (FLK).
