Leicester Law School
You’ll find a quiet place to study in the atmosphere of the historic dedicated Law Library. It is named after the Canada-born businessman, Harry Peach, who was one of the University’s founders. Next to the Law School you can work in the silent study space or collaborate with friends in group study spaces in the David Wilson Library.
Our moot court lets you practise running a trial and arguing your case, whether that’s competing with other Leicester students, or in a student society, such as our award-winning Leicester University Law Society. This room replicates the modern court room experience where junior lawyers represent clients. So you will be familiar with the environment when you run your first real court case. In this court you can even record and review your performance to help you hone your advocacy skills. That might even be while you are at university if you undertake Mackenzie Friend training in the Legal Advice Clinic.
Our grand debating chamber is perfect for competitions and networking events with professionals in practice. Our students say advocacy competitions here make them feel like they are running a Supreme Court appeal.
The Legal Advice Clinic offers free legal advice to the general public on all kinds of issues such as problems at work, consumer rights and divorce and family breakdowns. You’ll help solve real-life problems, supervised by a qualified solicitor, giving you all-important hands-on experience, which will help prepare you for your future career. In the Business Law Advice Clinic you can help local entrepreneurs and fellow students bring their ambitions to fruition.
Small-group tutorials and seminars are held in small rooms where you can conduct debates, solve real-life problems and raise questions with your tutor. These small groups allow you to get to know each other and your tutor really well. Any questions or uncertainties can easily be resolved in these small-teaching groups. Lectures, where our experts provide you with the framework for each subject, are held in larger lecture theatres.
In offices of professors, lecturers and tutors you can attend office and feedback hours for one-to-one support around your learning. Personal tutors and careers tutors are also available here too.
When you need a break from your studies, the Students’ Union and Danielle Brown Sports Centre are at either end of the Law School and Victoria Park is on our doorstep.
