Research Involving Animals – Division of Biomedical Services
Infectious organisms/disease models
Within the facility we have established several infectious disease models which allow studies into microorganisms covering basic research into pathogenesis, to testing of new therapeutics or vaccine candidates, or to improving our understanding of how the host immune system protects us from infection.
The facility has the capacity to work with category two and category three pathogens within our infectious disease room or within our bespoke containment level three facility. Within the facility we have over 15 years of experience in design of experiments using pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis using a range of different routes of infection.
Models can also be used within our preclinical imaging facility allowing visualisation of the course of the infection.
