Attrition in criminal case progression
Matt Hopkins (with Tammy Ayres) is conducting research for the Home Office which is looking at what leads to delays in the progression criminal cases (mainly violence related) to a suspect charge. This major project (starting in January 2022) explores the relationships between available police investigation/prosecution resources, the demands they need to manage, and ultimately case progression. It includes fieldwork with four police factor areas, tracking of 1,000 case files and interviews with 50 police/CPS staff. The project is due to report in late 2024.
