Course description

The world prevalence of diabetes amongst adults is increasing year-on-year making diabetes care one of the biggest medical challenges faced by health care professionals globally. This rising epidemic has increased the demand for services from personnel trained to deliver high quality care.

The Leicester Diabetes Centre now forms one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research, dynamic clinical services and teaching in diabetes. On this distance learning course you will benefit from the specialist knowledge of the experienced and high profile academic staff from the Centre and the University of Leicester. The ongoing research published by the Leicester Diabetes Centre ensures that all the online materials you use will be relevant and up to date.

These short courses combine the most topical thinking around clinical care and research in adults with practical examples of how novel research and evidence-based diabetes care can be applied in real life, clinical settings.

These courses will equip you with the knowledge, confidence and skills to specialise in diabetes care. You will become part of the Distance Learning Diabetes Community providing the opportunity for networking and sharing best practice.

Distance learning gives you the flexibility to fit study around existing work commitments and enhance your career prospects without having to leave employment. These courses are ideal for healthcare professionals who wish to specialise in diabetes from either a primary or secondary care background.

NB. The course in 'Glycaemic Management' lasts four months and is worth 30 credits. The other courses run for two months and are worth 15 credits.

Each of these short courses is a module within our MSc in Diabetes by distance learning. You can only take one course at a time, up to a maximum of 60 credits. These credits can be used as APL if you decide to take the full degree (60 credits if you study for an MSc or PGDip, 30 credits if you study for a PGCert).
