English for Global and Professional Communication
The English for Global and Professional Communication Summer Programme is aimed at students of all disciplines wishing to improve their English for use in a business context. The course combines general English classes, business English lessons and site visits with a focus on diversity, considering Leicester’s multicultural demographic.
Aims of the English for Global and Professional Communication Summer Programme
The main aims of the course are to develop participants’ ability to communicate when using English in a business context and to give them an opportunity to experience studying at a British university. We focus on all four language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing but the main emphasis will be on improving spoken English.Why join the English for Global and Professional Communication Summer Programme?

- Up to 20 hours of face-to-face taught classes per week on the University of Leicester campus. Classes generally take place between 9.30-11.00, 11.30-13.00 and 14.00-16.00

Course contents
This intensive course primarily focuses on language used in business contexts. Participants will be provided with opportunities to use new vocabulary and language structures in contexts such as at the final poster presentation.
This specially designed two-week course combines:
- A course welcome and induction day
- Everyday English classes to improve your vocabulary and confidence in interacting with English language speakers in everyday life, with particular emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- Business English classes
- Site visit preparation lessons to equip you with the vocabulary you may encounter at our two company visits (in 2025 this was the stately home of Chatsworth House and the Leicester Tigers Rugby Club)
- Two evening social activities
- A Saturday day trip to a place of interest such as London
- An end-of-course presentation ceremony and tutor feedback

Entry requirements
- Participants must be aged 18 or over
- Minimum English level of IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.
- We will accept a range of test results, including:
- CASEC
- CET4/CET6
- EIKEN
- GTEC
- TOEFL
- TOEIC
- Please upload evidence of your English test on your online application
- We may be able to test your English

Accommodation
- Accommodation will be in self-catered university accommodation within walking distance of the campus and the city centre
- Participants will be housed in a single study bedroom with shared bathroom and shared kitchen facilities. All bills and Wi-Fi access are included. Bedding and kitchen equipment are also provided.

- £1,950
Payment is required in full to accept a place on the course. Payment deadline: Friday 15 May 2026.
