Early Career Researchers

The aim of these awards is to attract, appoint and develop Early Career Research Fellows who will deliver our strategic priorities. Fellowship opportunities will initially be available for one year, with extension to two years subject to progress reviews deemed satisfactory by the Executive Committee. Senior staff will mentor these highly-promising researchers, and we will provide a cohort-training fund to augment current institutional researcher training programmes.

Up to 4 fellowships will be awarded annually in years 1-3 of the BHF Accelerator Award.   • Collaborators and supervisors who will ensure appropriate support and leadership
  • A trajectory towards becoming an independent researcher
  • A track record of high quality research as evidenced by high quality research papers and successful external funding applications
  • The timeline and pathway to external funding
  • The University’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity
  • A training plan that will facilitate delivery of the fellowship’s objectives

Research Associate Grade 7/Research Fellow Grade 8

These posts are designed to offer the very best Early Career Researchers time and resources to develop competitive research applications as part of their transition to independence. The University is looking for individuals with evidence of high quality outputs, MRC key skills, and innovative plans for interdisciplinary research in the field of cardiovascular precision medicine.  

Research Associate

The successful applicant will contribute original research consistent with the designated priorities of the Leicester British Heart Foundation (BHF) Accelerator. In collaboration with other Leicester investigators, innovative research will be conducted to significantly advance current understanding in the field concerned to establish a new strategic area of research at the University (or to develop new methodological approaches). The line of research to be established must be in line with the University’s overall research and teaching mission and be capable of attracting significant further funding from the British Heart Foundation and other major funders.

Research Fellow

The successful applicant will lead a novel research project consistent with the designated priorities of the Leicester British Heart Foundation (BHF) Accelerator.  Innovative research will be conducted to significantly advance current understanding in the field concerned or to develop new methodological approaches. The line of research to be established must be in line with the University’s overall research and teaching mission and be capable of attracting significant further funding from the British Heart Foundation and other major funders.
