AccessAbility
Students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment
AccessAbility offers students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment:
- assistance with pre-entry discussions and visits
- initial informal assessment of your requirements
- assistance with the Disabled Students’ Allowance and with the ordering of equipment (this does not apply to international students)
- one-to-one support and/or study skills sessions if required
- assistance with the management, administration and organisation of note-takers and interpreters
- note-takers trained according to Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People (CACDP) guidelines
- appropriate examination arrangements
- radio microphone loan from Audio Visual Services, subject to availability
- information about portable and integral loop systems
- liaison, with your agreement, with academic staff, departments and the Accommodation Service
- contact with outside agencies and local specialists
Every effort will be made to provide facilities and support appropriate to your individual requirements. You are strongly advised to contact the AccessAbility team before the start of your course.

Accommodation
There is a range of catered or self-catering accommodation, with and without en-suite rooms, with textphones and vibrating/flashing emergency alert systems suitable for students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. Further information is available from the Accommodation team.
