Students who are blind or have a visual impairment

AccessAbility offers students who are blind or have a visual impairment:

  • assistance with pre-entry discussions and visits
  • initial informal assessment of your requirements
  • organising examination arrangements
  • assistance with applying for the Disabled Students’ Allowance  and with the ordering of equipment (this is not applicable to international students)
  • one-to-one study support sessions
  • assistance with Brailling course materials via an agency
  • reliable volunteer readers trained according to RNIB guidelines to record text
  • loan of four-track tape recorders or digital recorders
  • assistance with arranging campus orientation
  • assistance with arranging a personal assistant if required
  • liaison, subject to your agreement, with departments
  • liaison with the Accommodation Office
  • contact with outside agencies
