Students who are blind or have a visual impairment
AccessAbility offers students who are blind or have a visual impairment:
- assistance with pre-entry discussions and visits
- initial informal assessment of your requirements
- organising examination arrangements
- assistance with applying for the Disabled Students’ Allowance and with the ordering of equipment (this is not applicable to international students)
- one-to-one study support sessions
- assistance with Brailling course materials via an agency
- reliable volunteer readers trained according to RNIB guidelines to record text
- loan of four-track tape recorders or digital recorders
- assistance with arranging campus orientation
- assistance with arranging a personal assistant if required
- liaison, subject to your agreement, with departments
- liaison with the Accommodation Office
- contact with outside agencies
