Student Support Services

Carers and Parents Network

If you are a student at Leicester with caring or parenting responsibilities, you can join our Carers and Parents Network. We want to provide you with the opportunity to meet others who may share your experiences, and to find out about the support available for you.

You don’t need to be a paid or an 'official' carer – caring looks different depending on each unique situation. It could be that you care for a parent, partner, sibling, or neighbour. Maybe you care from a distance while you study at Leicester. Whatever your situation, you’re welcome to join the network and come along to our events.

Whatever your situation is, you may benefit from the resources we share and talking to others in similar positions.

If you have any questions about the Network, please contact carers_parents@le.ac.uk

If you have any questions about the support available to you as a student parent or carer, please get in touch with our Student Welfare Team (welfare@le.ac.uk) directly and they will be happy to help.

Current students and staff can fill in this form to join our Carers and Parents Network.

Our commitments

The University of Leicester is committed to ensuring the University is a flexible and family friendly environment for all students and staff. As part of this commitment, the University has a number of policies and procedures in place to support staff who have caring and parenting responsibilities.
We have multiple baby-changing facilities across campus, infant feeding rooms and a child-friendly space.

We are accredited by the Carers Federation with the Quality Standard in Carer Support for the support we provide to our student carers, and we are a member of the Young Carers’ Alliance. You can read our Statement of Commitment (Word, 64kb) to learn about some of the steps we take in supporting our carers.
