Social life

Being a student at the University of Leicester is not solely about studying, we also have events and activities to help you make the most of your time with us.   We work with the Students’ Union and Mature Students and Postgraduate Association to create a series of events designed to build a mature student community at the University.

Mature Students Welcome Event

To help you become familiar with the campus and meet other new and current mature students, we run a Mature Students Welcome Event.  This is a two day event in the week before the beginning of the academic year which includes campus tours, social activities and an introduction to the services available to help you during your time as a student.

Mature Student Ambassadors

The University of Leicester has a large student ambassador scheme that is aimed as undergraduate students looking for flexible work and work experience.  Mature students are welcome to join the main scheme or join the smaller Mature Student Ambassador scheme which takes into account previous work experience and the work available specifically revolves around encouraging mature students into higher education.

Study Buddies

Study Buddies is an extension of the Mature Student Ambassadors scheme and comes in two parts.

One part is an e-mentoring scheme for Access to HE students where current mature students will support current Access to HE students during their college courses via an online system. This involves a commitment of around an hour per week from the mentor. The aim of this programme is to provide practical advice and information on what it is like being a mature student at the University of Leicester.

The second part is a more informal scheme where current mature students provide a friendly ear to new students at the University at events such as the induction and coffee mornings.

Coffee Mornings

We hold monthly coffee mornings for our mature students to meet and chat about university life. This is an opportunity to take some time out of studying and have a coffee and some cake with like-minded students. This is also an opportunity to let the University know of any issues or ideas you have that we might be able to act upon.

Half Term Activities for students with dependants

We like to make sure that students with children or dependants are included in activities. Each half term we hold a themed event where you can bring your family along. This is a great opportunity to meet other students with children or dependants and show your family the campus.
