A study carried out by Dr Turi King from the Department of Genetics used the DNA of Sir David Attenborough as part of a larger study to see if there was a link between the Y chromosome and surname, both of which are passed down the male line.

A brief history of the Department

Although the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology was only formed in 2015 it has a much longer history. The department was formed from staff of the Department of Biochemistry together with staff of the Department of Cell Physiology and Pharmacology.
