Suspending your studies

Campus based students

If you choose to suspend from your studies you will need to ensure that you have followed the suspension process.

Once your suspension has been agreed by your department and processed on your student record, changes will be made to your tuition fee account.

Your tuition fee liability will be calculated as per the 'withdrawing from your studies' process. If there is an overpayment, this will not be refunded but will be used to offset your tuition fees charged when you return to your studies. If you have fee liability to pay, this should be settled immediately upon your suspension.

Distance learning students

If you are considering suspending your studies, please contact your school or department to discuss. You should also read the relevant section of the Student Handbook for your course, which will outline at what point during your studies you are able to request suspension.

Whilst you are in a period of suspense from your studies, any outstanding payments due may be frozen and your payment due dates will be adjusted in line with when you are due to return to your studies.

Overpayments following suspensions

If you suspend your studies, your tuition fee liability based on your period of registration is calculated. If after your record has been updated there is a tuition fee overpayment this is not refunded. Instead the overpayment is held and used as a payment towards the tuition fees due when you return from suspense.

If you do not return from a period of suspense and you formally withdraw, the overpayment is refunded in line with our refund policy. For more information on refunds and the process please see our Refund Policy page.
