Profile

Rachel joined the University of Leicester in January 2022.  

Senior lecturer De Montfort University. (2012-2022) Lecturer (2009-2012).

Rachel trained with Delotte & Touche within their business services group and specialised in agricultural accounting. She was a project accountant with Triumph Motorcycles Limited, covering a number of projects i.e intrastat in the UK, France, Germany and Sweden. Importing and exporting of goods in and outside Europe, investigating preferential schemes within the global market. The experience has influenced her research interests of the role of EU preferential tariffs when importing/exporting to non-EC countries.

Rachel joined DMU in April 2009 and developed her research within International trade, preferential tariffs.  She gained a MSc and a PhD within this area and has academic publications highlighting the under utilization of the Generalised System of Preference.  

She is established in her teaching and gained the PG Cert, FHEA and SFHEA qualifications

Research

The investigation of the Utilisation of Most Favoured Nations compared to Generalised System of Preferences. Trade tariffs are of UK national interest. High impact due to the Brexit situation.

Effects of Brexit and Covid 19 within the Leicestershire top 200 companies listing. This is helped by being a Lead researcher of the Leicester team, developing the Top 500 companies listing for the East Midlands, published on 1 June 2020 on Business Live, a virtual medium of the Reach Media Group.

A member of Top 200 Leicestershire companies research team since 2012, taking the research lead in 2014, to evaluate the top 200 Leicestershire companies. This has published a pull-out business publication within the Leicester Mercury on a yearly basis since the start, June 2012.

Principle Investigator for CIMA research bid, The business case for investment in technologies: The role of academics and tuition, September 2019. Managed a team of three and processed the financial budget for the project.

"Previously at De Montfort University:-

I was the lead researcher on the East Midlands Top 500 Companies.

This project collaborates data from De Montfort University, Derby University and Nottingham Trent University, Top 200 companies. The team is enhanced by the Reach media group and the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce.   The report was released over the reach online media platform and last year generated 13,777 page views by 12,435 users.

I was the lead researcher for the Leicestershire Top 200 businesses, since 2012. Published annually in the Leicester Mercury. Results are presented at a breakfast with over 100 local business people present.
