Profile

Kristina is the Renal Research Associate on the ANCHOR IGAN study. Her background is in Health Psychology, with an interest in chronic illness, condition beliefs, and mental health. She is an experienced mixed-methods researcher with strong qualitative skills. Kristina is also a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, where she teaches on Health Psychology, Family Psychology, and Mixed Research Methods.

Research

At the University of Leicester, Kristina's primary focus is the main researcher on the ANCHOR IGAN (EvAluatiNg the role of leCtin patHway activatiOn in flaRes of IgA Nephropathy) project; a mixed methods study exploring loin pain in IgA Nephropathy in collaboration with The National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR). This project is led by Dr Haresh Selvaskandan and Professor Jon Barratt, and will work with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals both qualitative and quantitative, to inform a later clinical lab study.

Kristina's other topics of research expertise focus on chronic health conditions, women's health, and mental health services. Topics include food allergy, anaphylaxis, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), Covid-19, breastfeeding, sick leave, open science, information sharing, and health psychology as a discipline. Her PhD topic was on condition beliefs of adolescent food allergy. Kristina is an experienced mixed-methods researcher, with expertise in quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews and analysis which she both utilises in research and teaches.

Supervision

Kristina regularly supervises MSc students in various areas of Psychology at her second job at Nottingham Trent University. She currently is on the supervision team of three doctoral students, and provides topic-specific and methodological guidance, particularly in exploratory research utilising qualitative or mixed methods in health-related fields.

Teaching

Kristina is a Senior Lecturer on various Psychology modules at Nottingham Trent University, including in the areas of Health Psychology, Family Psychology (including as Module Leader), and Research Methods both qualitative and quantitative. Kristina also supervises MSc dissertation projects and doctoral students. She has previously taught at Birmingham City University as a Visiting Lecturer teaching interventions in MSc Health Psychology, at Newman University as Module Leader for two health psychology modules, and at Aston University in Research Methods and Social Psychology.
