Profile

I am a scholar of journalism and communication, with a research and teaching focus on the digital transformation of journalism and news production. I joined the University of Leicester in 2008. After serving as School Director of Teaching and Learning and I am currently Director of Distance Learning. Prior to this, I was Senior Lecturer in Journalism at De Montfort University and previously worked as a journalist.

Research

My primary scholarship is in the field of digital media and news production. Much of my previous and current work focused on technological innovation in the newsroom, the implications of digital technologies for news organisations and journalism. I am particularly interested in the changes in the journalistic profession and working practices in the digital environment. My publications have discussed the changing media context and presented original research findings on the impact of digitisation and technological innovation on journalistic working practices, the managerial responses to convergence in production and delivery of news, and the timeliness of online news.
