Jessica is currently a Postgraduate Researcher in Criminology, for which she has been awarded funding with the ERSC Doctoral Training Partnership. Her project will look at magistrates decision making in domestic violence cases. She has experience volunteering with the Witness Service with and experience working as a domestic violence and sexual violence helpline case worker which have heavily influenced the research topic.
In addition to her postgraduate research project, she is contributing to research regarding harassment in higher education via the Catalyst for Change Project with the Centre for Hate Studies. She is also Co-Lead of the Sensitive Research Network Midlands and assists in the growth and development of the network.
Her previous research has included the current diversity of Magistrates and the opinions of the public towards the increase in sentencing powers. Additionally, she researched the phenomena of false guilty pleas and what influences individuals to plead guilty and falsely plead guilty. Over the last year, she has dedicated a significant portion of her time to helping students through making a Dissertation Guide and PhD application guide. She has also utilised social media to provide tips and guidance on dissertations and has reached over 1 million students across England and Wales.
