Profile
I manage the three thin section labs and make polished thin sections (including micromorphology) and polished blocks and other specialist sample preparation. I prepare samples for teaching and research and take commercial orders on request (including thin sections, polished thin sections, polished blocks, carbon polished blocks, fluid inclusion wafers, grain mounts, water sensitive samples, high resolution images of thin sections, etc.) and prepare standard and bespoke sample preparation.
I have over a decade of experience working as a thin section (including micromorphology) technician and accept a wide variety of materials (rocks, soil, sediments, ceramics, shell, bone, metals, plastics, wood, teeth, circuit boards, meteorites, wire, powders, corals, textiles, etc.).
The thin section labs are well equipped with various pieces of equipment including: 2 LP50 lapping machines, 2 GTS1 cutters, AB250 cutter, TS230 cutter, 2 Vector polishers, Kent polisher, custom-made polisher, Petrothin and Ecomet grinders among others.
