Museum, gallery and heritage experts come together to advance inclusion on Trans Day of Visibility 2026
To mark Trans Day of Visibility, 31 March 2026, the University of Leicester’s Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) will bring together cultural leaders and experts to celebrate the unique role that cultural, arts and heritage organisations can play in advancing trans inclusion.
The event will celebrate upcoming trans-inclusive exhibitions, public programmes and examples of leading practice across the cultural sector; premiere the Museum of Transology’s new digital platform with over 1,000 community objects displayed online; and share practical resources and tools for inclusion that are being co-produced with a partnership of museums, galleries and heritage organisations across the UK.
Taking place on Trans Day of Visibility 2026 (Tuesday, 31st March), the event will be hosted by Sabah Choudrey (Author, Supporting Trans People of Colour: How To Make Your Practice Inclusive).
Confirmed contributors include Maggie Appleton (Chief Executive Officer, RAF Museum), Clare Barlow (Director, People’s History Museum), Sharon Cowan (Professor of Feminist and Queer Legal Studies, University of Edinburgh), Cesare Cuzzola (Research Centre for Museums and Galleries), Sharon Heal (Director, Museums Association), Laura Pye (Director, National Museums Liverpool), Richard Sandell (Co-director, Research Centre for Museums and Galleries), E-J Scott (Curator, Museum of Transology), Laura Summers (Head of Programme Delivery, Art Fund).
