Career-boosting sessions for University of Leicester students mark International Women’s Day
University of Leicester students with an eye on their future careers will be able to take part in three International Women’s Day initiatives with an employability slant.
A tech hackathon, a session for budding entrepreneurs and an employability event are all lined up to mark the day, which falls on Saturday 8 March. The events have been organised by the University’s Careers and Employability Service.
On Tuesday 4 March, the Café Enterprise: Women Entrepreneurs event will allow budding entrepreneurs to network with established entrepreneurs from across the university community. Open to all, the session will explore the challenges and opportunities within female entrepreneurship and highlight the resources available to those looking to start their own ventures.

The Women in Tech Hackathon takes place on Saturday 8 March. Organised in collaboration with the Women in STEM Society, the Computer Science Society, and CyberWomen@Leicester, it aims to empower women and underrepresented groups by providing hands-on experience in tech innovation.
Students from a range of disciplines will work in teams to tackle a real-world challenge, developing a tech solution that improves accessibility or inclusivity for underrepresented communities. The event is supported by leading employers IBM, Capital One, and Access Group, who will be mentoring students throughout the hackathon. For more details on this event, email Frazer Stark fs231@leicester.ac.uk.
Finally, students are encouraged to find out more about the Women’s Career Accelerator. The initiative aims to enhance leadership skills and accelerate the professional development for female-identifying students.
Each programme includes an in-person event delivered in conjunction with employer partners, providing students the opportunity to network with and learn from inspiring female role models. These events also provide students with the opportunity to build confidence and enhance their career readiness through experiential learning, allowing them to develop employability skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Following the accelerator events, participating students are paired with a dedicated career coach to help them action plan for success. For more information email Ranjit Nainu ranjit.nainu@leicester.ac.uk.
In addition to the Careers and Employability Service, the University is hosting a range of International Women’s Day events – see the website for full details.
