Museums and Health explores the growing role of museums, heritage and cultural organisations in supporting health and wellbeing The module introduces innovative practice in creative health, social prescribing, community-based care and hospital-based museum and heritage programmes. You will examine how museums contribute to public health policy and practice, and consider the ethical, inclusive and practical challenges involved in designing and delivering health-related museum interventions.

Through lectures, workshops, case studies, study visits and practical activities, you will develop specialist knowledge of museums and health promotion, alongside skills in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, object handling for wellbeing, slow looking, evaluation and reflective practice. You will also learn how to design, fundraise and assess creative health projects, using appropriate research and evaluation methods to understand their impact and effectiveness.
