Module code: MU7035
In this module you will be introduced to the theory and practice of lifelong learning and learning outside the classroom, and how they relate with practice in museums, galleries and science centres. Through lectures, field trips, case studies and practical workshops, you will explore a range of learning strategies, including creative and object-based learning, working with schools and families and digital learning. You will critically consider access, engagement, inclusion and participation in museum learning, examining how programmes and resources can be designed to meet the learning needs of diverse audiences.
The module will also introduce you to the professional practice of museum learning and education, including how teams work collaboratively with other departments, schools, communities and external partners to develop and deliver programmes. You will also explore and apply different methods and measures for evaluating the impact of learning programmes. Through practical activities and critical reflection, you will be supported to develop the core professional skills required for careers in museum learning and education.
